Hello and Salam!
Hope everyone who observes Ramadan is having a great one so far! Its ORC time! I’ve been contemplating whether or not to go for the ORC this season, there’s a lot going on at home. But then again when is there not?
And the whole point of ORC is to support and follow your fellow designers(did you check out this years lot? SO excited to see Fariha of @penniesforafutune representing South Asian women on there! woot woot
If you haven’t heard of ORC before, its basically a community design event(currently in its 19th season!) that helps and motivates everyone participating to push through and tackle a space in their house that needs some love! I’ve been following it for years and love seeing all the transformations!
OFFICE/GUESTROOM BEFORE
Its my first time participating, and as much as I wanted to tackle the master bedroom, Im going to be doing our office space/guestroom! It was kind of an emergency situation…for real.
We’ve been working from home for over a year now, first we had a desk in our bedroom, which was just awful. Our room is tiny and it was just too much. We have a lot of guests over a lot of the time, so we do need a multiple functional guestrooms. But after a year of working like that, its just not practical or sustainable.
My husband ordered this super ugly electric standing desk. He had limited options to choose from, as his work was sending it. And he was insisting on a motorized one, because sitting all day and working was becoming tiring.
So one of the main issues to tackle is to make the ugly desk work. We see so many wonderfully transformed rooms, and if I had the budget and leisure to get rid of yucky furniture and replace with things that work, I would love it. But true design is making what you have work. We’ve got an ugly desk, a super yuck chair and two single beds that everyone in the family is insistent must stay in the room stacked up incase guests come. The box springs thankfully went in the garage.
That’s a lot to expect from a room. But isn’t that real life? So currently the theater room is a makeshift bedroom. (We will worry about that later) But that did empty out the office/guest room. And the two singles in the theater are stacked up to work as a sort of daybed in the office room. Which not surprisingly my husband has been enjoying, we all love our sneaky naps during break time don’t we?
THE PLANS
So now that you’ve seen it, what are my plans?
To be honest to make this presentable with the budget and the furniture that we do have. There is no way my husband is replacing the desk and chair, so they stay….you can see how ridiculous the desk looks next to the chair, the proportion is all off!
The point of the room is so that it’s a comfortable space for my husband to work in, there’s no point of a well decorated room if the person using it thinks its not practical. Function is key to this rooms transformation! So we will have to figure out a way to keep the table/chair….and those dreaded mattresses there.
Could this be any tougher?
Oh yes. I don’t own a mitersaw,a circular saw, or a car big enough to get wood home. Nice! Lets do this!
Find below my moodboard for the space and come back next week to see the plans.
Some plans I’ve been playing with
Till then check out the featured designers as well as the guest participants. Im excited are you?
And guys…Can you believe it? Today is the last Friday of Ramadan!
I hope everyone has a safe, blessed Eid!
