So a little history before I try to share images from all over the place. So I got married in 2012 and moved all the way to Australia, from Pakistan. We got our first apartment in Fremantle. Well known for supporting art, local and international. Freo is a must visit for tourists! I absolutely loved it there, I could step down from my apartment and stroll the streets and spend hours in vintage shops with treasure troves of stories to discover.

I didn’t stay in that apartment for long, I came back to Pakistan to finish my degree and then when I finally got to Australia it was time to move again.

We moved to Cockburn next in a much bigger place which had issues from the day we moved in, we were finally allowed a break lease due to massive mold issues in the apartment and building. Considering I was pregnant with my first, this was such a blessing!

We finally moved into what would be my home for the next 3 years. Dianella. A 3 bedroom quaint house, I started my interior journey there, had both my children, went through lots of ups and downs but whatever it was I will always remember it fondly. It was the only home I remember back as our family home.

In Australia, realtors/owners have inspections while you stay in the space (we were renting) this always terrified me and my husband always advised against drilling anything at all in the walls. So the walls were always a stark, blank white, but thats where my love of textiles helped. I opened up a little shop Tkozi that sold beautiful Pakistan textiles and handicrafts. My house sort of reflected that. Neutral base with lots of colors through textile.

8 Years later today just having recently moved to Houston I would say my style has evolved. If I had to define it I would say it really depends on my mood, which is why I am still so very indecisive. In general I have an eclectic style mixed in with mid century modern and just a little sprinkle of bohemian. I hate stark spaces that look like a designer came in bought expensive furniture and put them all in perfect symmetry and called it a day. I like layers, I like irregular spaces that have stories to tell. A shell from Karachi, tray from Egypt, sticks from the beach in Australia. You don’t have to be that global, a flea market or a thrift shop will service you well enough. (Thank you Facebook Marketplace for making that easier!)

Just having a home that is a personality in it of itself is the goal here. Having this as an outlet for my creativity and as literal stress therapy is the goal. Over the numerous spaces I have lived in 7 houses to be exact, currently in my 8th. I always moved before doing all parts of the home, time and money is key here. What I managed was always very budget friendly though I would’ve loved some key high end pieces. But its never a necessity!
